From body hair-removal to the use of schoolyard taunts, men are now encountering a set of norms that control how they present themselves. Articles— â€Å"Manscaping: The Tangle of Nature, Culture, and Male Body Hair† by Mathew Immergut and â€Å"â€Å"Dude You’re a Fag†: Adolescent Masculinity and the Fag Discourse† by C. J. Pascoe—introduce new ideas on who and what influences masculinity. Immergut argues that homosexuals mainstreamed manscaping making that a body†¦show more content†¦If he gathers more references linking other shows or gay men influencing this type of culture onto straight men, then his argument would have been more valid. Pa scoe provides a great idea of how the discourse of gay slurs is a powerful central mechanism that makes adolescents masculine, but the evidence she presents is weakened by her use of inadequate examples that lack the quantity of different social context. All of Pascoe’s references and testimonies come from teenagers that attend Riverside High in north-central California, which doesn’t allow room for different perspectives because all of the information comes from the same background that revolves around the same social norm. Pacoe’s examples sound very redundant, even though she interviews kids from different social groups and genders, stating that â€Å"both boys and girls I interview told me that â€Å"fag† was the worst epithet one guy could direct at another† (Pascoe, 2016, p. 577). The church is also known as the Church of England where the supreme governor is Queen Elizabeth the second(Vine, 2014). However, the worldwide Anglican Communion is usually governed by General Synod who is the Bishop under the authority of Parliament(Bentley, 2015). This is where my family lineage is born. I come from a long history of Anglican bishops where most of my family lineage have served under the authority of the Queen. We from the religious point of view, I have been able to realize the way religious affects the lives of people around me. It shapes the governance of both the family and the community(Charlton, 2014). People depend highly on religion to determine their political and economic life. By grandfather was a Bishop who served under queen Elizabeth and a leader of several religious missions. In fact, the city I live in Blackburn, is reputable as being one of the most religious i n the country. With regard to the people who live in the city, people count on religious leaders in many activities. Religious leaders have spearheaded several missions in the country. At a young age, children learn to develop leadership skills by being nurtured  and  encouraged by adults such as parents, family members, teachers and caregivers. Qualities  imposed by  adults, such as moral development, communication, and diversity can all greatly affect the way children become leaders. Reflect on your own leadership qualities to see how you can better impact  young adults to become  future leaders. Moral Development   Children learn valuable leadership skills during their childhood such as communication, organization, problem solving, and even creativity. A leader is someone many people look to for direction, inspiration, and guidance. As an adult, enriching a child’s life as early as possible with leadership skills, experiences, and knowledge, is essential to their adult leadership potential for the latter part  of their life.  This includes social and cultural norms, as well as rules and  laws that have the ability to influence a child’s proper attitude and behaviors.  Adults have a strong ability to help shape morality within children by teaching the difference between right and wrong, how to see things from another’s point of view, and how to work with others in team situations. What can you do to strengthen moral development? The best way to teach morals and ethics is through example. It is important to create a solid moral code- a code that will guide children to stand up for their beliefs and act right, even without us.  Look for moral issues and talk about them as they come up: from TV shows and news events to situations at home, school, and with friends. Tell your child how you feel about the issue and why. A  childs moral development is an ongoing process, and you are someone who has the ability to be a positive example and instill beliefs, knowledge and habits that will be the foundation your children use forever (act wisely!). More on moral development → Communication   Communication with children at a young age is imperative to the leadership skills they identify with as adults. While children may need to hear messages repeated several times, it is best to learn from good communication and seeing how others respond to them. It is important to model effective leadership behavior to children and communicate with them so they can effectively learn the difference  between right and wrong through a system of trial and error. Children  are inherently drawn to the good moral values, but adults who engage children in good behavior, allow them  opportunities to do a good job, and offer praise when appropriate are likely to strengthen a child’s leadership skills at a very young age. Much of a child’s leadership skills are developed during their time at school. In an article by Ann Lieberman titled Can Teachers Really Be Leaders? she states â€Å"Teachers who become leaders are in a unique position to make change happen. They have learned a great deal about how to teach well and know how to build the kind of school and classroom conditions that can help transform schools.  Without a doubt, teachers play a huge role, whether they realize it or not, in developing leadership within their students, their classroom, and their  entire school. Teachers intend to serve others and make a difference in the lives of their students and, by doing so, help shape the future. What can you do to encourage communication skills? At school, extracurricular activities such as student government groups, sports, and clubs all have the ability to engage young adults in becoming better future leaders. Actively being involved in any of those areas allows opportunities for the development of communication as well as team building experiences.  The leadership skills gained from ones personal involvement in extracurricular activities is especially important during ones academic career. For example,  college admissions offices are often looking for more than students with great gradesthey  are looking for students with outstanding involvement in athletics, school clubs, and community organizations. Diversity   Considering diversity within leadership allows a group of leaders to be created who have an understanding and appreciation towards people’s differences and unique characteristics.  Children learning about diversity not only at home, but also in  academia, creates multiple environments where peoples’ differences and unique characteristics will be highlighted as a useful skill. Having children understand diversity and implementing its importance at a young age will help and encourage them to work together with others and give them an opportunity to learn about the individualities of those around them. Encouraging more diversity within our lives and implementing a greater knowledge about diversity to children is extremely beneficial to society by allowing them to  recognize others with different skills, experiences, attitudes, and backgrounds. What can you do to encourage diversity? Be open-minded and learn about issues and concerns of other people. Get to know people who are different than you by making a conscious effort to be exposed to  people who act, speak, look or worship differently than yourself, and consider the words and impacts of your actions. Model this type of behavior to youth through your normal daily interactions. Diversity has the ability to create curiosity and an interest in different peoples and cultures. Instilling these values and beliefs, especially in our youth, of accepting others despite dissimilarities allows our society to come together and work in unity with others. Children that are exposed to diversity at a younger age will then grow up to become leaders that are able to work across differences and assist teams towards a common goal. More on diversity → Leadership is a Continuous Process All in all, the development of leadership skills within one’s life is a continuing process that never ends. Leadership starts at a young age when children are learning from their parents, teachers, and society. This development then continues through high school and young adulthood where we experience diverse situations and learn to work through these situations with others. Everyone has the ability to learn new skills and be enriched with new experiences that help them become a better leader in our society. Moral development, communication, and diversity are aspects of leadership skills that are taught to children by adults and learned and experienced by children at a young age. There is no such thing as a perfect leader, but rather a leader who devotes his- or herself  to increasing their knowledge and experience with the hope of bettering others. The hope of bettering others can begin with being efficient role models and leaders to the youth in our society.

In Act Two of â€Å"Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? † George tells Nick the anecdote of a boy who once ordered â€Å"bergin†, killed his mother with a shotgun, and then after a year, crashed into a tree and killed his father. (KONKLE, 2003) Another reason why George disclosed the details of the story of the boy who accidentally killed his parents to Nick is to point out to Nick that no matter how perfect or ideal things may seem on the surface in the present, in truth, there is no such thing as ideal or perfect. The reality of life is that things are bound to go wrong all the time and people need to be ready for anything. What matters is how one deals with these difficulties. Nothing is permanent in the world. Sometimes things go the way you expect them to be but they can go the other way. The only thing permanent is change. The best way to cope with change is to recognize it, assess the veracity of the circumstance, and learn to adjust accordingly. It is important to see the reality of the situation so that in case there are problems that need to be solved, the best way to come up with a proper solution is to acknowledge the gravity of the situation. Trying to cover flaws or problems will only worsen the situation. Oftentimes, when this happens, small problems that are left unsolved snowball into an ‘avalanche’ that gets too big that it is bound to leave too much damage. George and Martha started out as a couple with so much promise of success in the future. However, things did not work out as they have planned and as expected. As such, they are having difficulty adjusting to this reality. Instead of accepting the reality of their predicament and exploring other alternatives to get them out of their â€Å"pothole†, so to speak, they chose to remain â€Å"oblivious† to their situation. George and Martha are trapped in their illusion of perfection and are too proud to admit the truth. They are thus thrust deeper in to their â€Å"pothole† of problems. (KONKLE, 2003) George became upset with Martha when she told the story about his manuscript that her father would not let him publish because it exposed his inadequacies. George is a proud man and it is very typical of him to refuse to reveal anything that would make him seem the least bit incompetent. The reality of this situation brought out their frustrations. The incident also highlighted the stark reality of the state of their affairs. Martha’s bickering drew attention to how disappointed that George was not live up to her and her father’s expectations and that she was so disgruntled with her marriage with George. (KONKLE, 2003) What ensued between the two couples reveals the similarities, to some degree, in their marriages. The only difference is that Nick and Honey represent the beginning stages and George and Martha represent the latter. The conversations between the men and the confrontation scenes expose the flaws in both marriages. Through George and Martha, Nick and Honey were allowed to â€Å"peek† into the future state of their relationship. They realize that should they do nothing about the present state of their marriage, they could end up in a place worse than where George and Martha are. For George and Martha, Nick and Honey represent a slice of their past. However, in 1996, Australian company, Argyle, stunned the world by announcing that they would no longer market diamonds through De Beers C.S.O. Many economists predicted that Argyle wouldn’t be able to compete against the mammoth De Beers. Yet in the year to December 31, Argyle recorded a profit of $142.5 million, an increase of 76% (Treadgold, 1999). De Beers is currently looking like losing the monopoly it has had on the diamond industry for almost seventy years. A monopoly is an industry in which there is only one organisation that supplies a particular good, service or resource which has no other similar alternatives. Monopolies are created by barriers which restrict the entry of new organisations (McTaggart et al, 1999). In a perfect monopoly, the seller has total control over the quantity of goods or services available for sale and the price at which the items are sold (Butterworths Business .. Dictionary, 1997). De Beers Consolidated Mines Central Selling Organisation has had a monopoly on the selling of rough diamonds since the 1930’s. A monopoly industry is characterised by having no close substitutes. Perhaps this belief was created out of De Beers advertising campaign, â€Å"A Diamond is Forever† (Capon, 1998, pg 6) which began in 1947. The second factor which creates a monopoly market are barriers to enter the market. Common barriers to entry include licenses, patents, entry lags, economics of scale and control of inputs (Browning & Browning, 1989). Analyze the ways in which British imperial policies between 1763 and 1776 intensified colonials’ resistance to British rule and their commitment to republican values. Colonial exploration in the mid to late 1700s led to stressful times for some countries. Great Britain was one of them. Their American colonies caused them much grief as they tried to take over their society. The British imperial policies towards its colonies made resistance higher to British rule and their commitment to republican values. The British imperial polices were too strict and caused difficulties within American colonies. The British caused more than enough problems with their colonies to start a controversy. They used mercantilism to try and take permanent control over the colonies. The colonies were to only buy from the British and sell to the British. They also wanted to regulate their imports and exports perfectly so they would import less than exporting to make them look like a high economically successful country. Which they were, but they fixed it to make them look like the superpower of Europe. Another idea they imposed onto the Americans was the dreaded Stamp Act. The colonies didn’t take the act well. They were forced to use stamps on every piece of paper they would use. They also had to buy these stamps from the British only. The taxes were steep and on unnecessary items to the knowledge of the colonies. The colonials knew that these acts were unfair and cruel. They didn’t know how to handle it at the time. Another act that was out of line was the Townshend tea tax. The coloni es became addicted to tea due to the caffeine. It was highly valuable to them. The British then put a lump sum tax on the tea that was being imported to the Americas. The colonies didn’t understand why the British needed so much money. The British then went over the line with the Boston Port Act. This act basically took away all of the colonials’ rights. The colonists called the act, the Intolerable Act, because the British went too far. To top off the colonial anger, the British enforced a new act called the Quartering Act. The act stated that any colonial was to take in British soldiers into their house, feed them and give them quartering. However, the  colonies then began to retaliate against the British. The colonies knew the British had gone too far. The first act they took was known as the Boston Tea Party. On December 16, 1773, Bostonians dressed up as Indians and boarded docked ships, smashed up 342 cases of tea and dumped it all into the Atlantic Ocean. The British then put the Intolerable Act on the colonists. That only gave them another reason to fight back. The unity of the colonists finally formed after the Intolerable Act. Flags were flew half-mast throughout all the colonies and food was sent to Boston all the way from South Carolina. The colonies then formed the Continental Congress, uniting all but Georgia participating. Fifty-five delegates were represented in the meeting to talk about what they had to do. The First Continental Congress met for seven weeks where they produced the Declaration of Rights. Parliament rejected all petitions made by the Congress. The British didn’t want this to go on any longer. They sent troops into Lexington and Concord where the ter rorized the American defense, which was weak and unorganized. The British started a war. The people that were back in Great Britain were rooting for the Americans to gain independence so maybe the British would then realize what they were doing to their own country. The British ruined their colonies and themselves also. The colonies finally were able to break the seal to the road to independence. They knew that the British weren’t running their country very well. They wanted change and unheard of things to happen.
